And the tide rushes in

This week (and next) I am bird sitting for a friend of mine. This means spending a couple of weeks in Vancouver proper. I've visited old haunts, seen how much things have changed, and I am currently enjoying a Vancouver thunderstorm. Not nearly the same as a Calgary thunderstorm.

It's so humid here, and I can smell the ocean.

I've said it more than once, this is the best summer ever.

Wednesdays are my favourite

I love Wednesdays. I look forward to Wednesdays as soon as I wake up on Thursdays. I carefully plan every detail of Wednesdays. I sit and ponder for days what will turn into a great Wednesday. Wednesday is when I cook dinner.

This might not sound like a big deal, but it is. I didn't grow up learning how to cook. I had to teach myself. And I am constantly learning. For example, I roasted my first whole chicken last week.

But it's not just about the (yummy) food, it's about who I'm cooking for. I cook dinner for Mum and Bob. It's a night where I get to try out totally new recipes, and we sit around and chat and have a really great time.

Wednesdays are the reason I came home for the summer.

Life is slow here, and that's the way I like it.

I've really found my groove, and I'm just enjoying my summer as it comes. I am really enjoying myself.

It's not like I'm doing anything special, or super exciting, I'm just hanging out. It's like summer vacation when I was 17 but now I have a car, I am old enough to go to the pub, and I have a bit more money to do stuff, like buy beer.

My life is an embarrassment of riches.
